In a ceremony held on 5 July at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the European Commission (EC) signed the contract for a public-private partnership with the recently established European Cyber Security Organisation (ESCO) for a strategic alliance in cybersecurity.

The European Cyber Security Public-Private Partnership, the ESC-PPP, is an alliance focused on promoting initiatives and projects geared towards stimulating Europe’s cybersecurity industry – especially in the areas of strategic research and innovation – and developing cyber solutions ‎for the protection of European critical infrastructures such as aviation.

The European Union will invest €450 million in the partnership under the auspices of the EU research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020 (H2020). Overall, the cybersecurity partnership is expected to raise around €1.8 billion in investments into Europe’s cybersecurity market by 2020.
